PetSure was founded in South Africa in 1991 as a joint venture
between 2 innovative, passionate and entrepreneurial partners – The
Hollard Insurance Company and Shaun Leveton. With Hollard providing
the insurance license and PetSure the pet insurance skills and expertise
the business quickly pioneered the concept of pet insurance and Equine
insurance in South Africa.
Through an innovative branding partnerships with one of South Africa’s
largest dog food manufacturers,PetSure was able to increase
and capitalise on the increased awareness for pet insurance. This
was further enhanced a few years later by a partnership with a large
private health insurance company where we provided blanket cover
to all its members.
After nearly 10 years of rapid growth and increased levels of consumer
awareness PetSure established offices in Sydney, again partnering
with Hollard by utilising their insurance license. As first entrants
to the Australian market our efforts where focused on making Australian
pet owners aware of the benefits of pet insurance, something we achieved
effectively through partnerships with AMWAY, RSPCA and MERIAL amongst
others. Our Australian operation has grown rapidly since it opened
in 2000 and now has 10 brand partners and an estimated market share
of in excess of 90%.
During our being we have always kept more than a keen eye on the
more traditional pet insurance markets such as the United Kingdom
and Sweden. Following a flurry of new affinity entrants into the
UK market, supermarkets in particular, we noted how innovation within
the UK market had stagnated. In 2007 the time was right for PetSure
to enter the market which has an estimated 1.4 million insured pets,
approximately 20% of the pet population. Since opening offices we
have already formed 3 major partnerships in this area .
Together with these firmly established business in South Africa,
Australia and the United Kingdom we have through our partnership
with the Hollard Insurance Group presence and representation in India,
China, Portugal, USA and Poland and are exploring other areas which
in include Germany, France, and New Zealand.
